During the time of Victory SC’s establishment in 1971, there were minimal figures who were willing to take a huge step towards bringing up a club like Victory. Maina Rasheed was one of those key personnel.
Maina Rasheed’s vision was to start a club from which they could work towards glory, building a club which is worthwhile for the general public to achieve success together. Victory – as they say the name says it all, started not only as a football club. They were all over the sports hierarchy in the Maldives from the 70s to the early 21st century. Maina Rasheed was one of the members of the group who took the initial step.
Apart from being a key member of Victory’s successful running, Maina Rasheed represented the club in various sports. He was part of the football, Hockey, Swimming, Volleyball, Basketball, Athletics and Table Tennis. After his playing career, he opted to move to the administration side of the club.
When Victory SC won the Presidents Cup three consecutive times, twice; 1985 and 2002, Maina Rasheed was part of the core team of the club. Maina Rasheed’s contribution to Victory and the whole sports community of Maldives, was recognized by the Government of Maldives in 2009, as he was honored with a National Award.
