Victory SC defeats New Radiant to return to the Dhivehi Premier League
In the FAM MPL 2nd Division Football Tournament semi-final, Victory Sports Club defeated arch-rivals New Radiant Sports Club by 2-0 to return to the top tier of Maldives, Dhivehi Premier League after four years.
FAM set the rules for this year’s second division tournament that, the two teams that reach the final of the competition, will be awarded a spot in the first division.
Victory SC and Mas Odi Sports Club reached the final of the tournament, and they will play in the 10-team Premier Division next season.
In this game Victory was without their prolific Kyrgystzan midfielder, Anatoly Vlasichev. He left the country after the brawl in the quarter-final against Kuda Henveiru United.
Victory SC took the lead in the 25th minute as Hussain Faisal (Faito) found a space behind New Radiant’s back line, and slotted past goalkeeper, Mohamed Jazlaan, who was helpless to stop that.
Pakistan goalkeeper, Hanif Saqib at the Victory SC goal made some crucial saves before they took the lead.
New Radiant’s Ismail Vifaq (Isse) and Abdulla Midhuhath Fahmy (Bichard) missed some decent chances to score the equalizer before the break.
Both teams made a couple of changes at the beginning of the second half. On as a substitute, yet again, Ibrahim Rizhan (Rizko) scored an important goal. Rizko found a loose ball inside the area and he blasted past keeper Jazlaan.
New Radiant tried in every way possible to get back to the game. But Victory SC maintained their tactical discipline to secure the result.
Victory SC returned to the top tier of Maldives Football after 2020. This is the second season they are competing in this division. Last season, they couldn’t find a way past the group stage. But this year they made a proper plan to achieve the target.
Mas Odi and Victory will play the final this Friday.
