Mas Odi SC defeats Victory SC to lift the title.
Mas Odi Sports Club defeated Victory Sports Club by 3-2, to be crowned as the champions of the FAM MPL 2nd Division Football Tournament.
Both teams reached the final, without a single defeat, Mas Odi, clinched the second division title in their debut in the second tier of Maldives Football.
Mas Odi SC reached the second division after claiming second place in the previous season’s 3rd Division Football Tournament.
Victory SC and Mas Odi SC, both made changes in their starting line-up for the final. Victory SC included Ahmed Suhail (Bampuch), who had the first attempt to goal in this game.
Mas Odi SC took the lead in the 23rd minute, and Abdulla Ziyan’s cross was well-headed by Mas Odi SC’s captain Ibrahim Waheed Hassan (Ibbe).
Ibbe was involved in the attack which doubled the lead for Mas Odi SC. Ibbe’s pass was met by Ziyan, inside the area, he lost the ball but, Victory SC Keeper, Hanif Saqib made a mistake which was drilled in by Hussain Shareef.
Before the break, Hussain Niyaz Mohamed (Bokuree) ran past Mohamed Rasheedh (Hokey), to give a lifeline for Victory SC.
Victory SC made a change at the break, Belarusian Striker, Ivan Veras was brought in for Bokuree. Ivan came straight into the game and created a chance for Mohamed Umair, but his attempt was saved by Mas Odi SC’s keeper, AbdulHamed.
Ahmed Nishan (Kanu), on as a substitute for Victory SC missed a good chance to score the second for his team. Victory SC’s hard work paid off when their captain Akram Abdul Ghani (Aku) found a free ball inside the area and put it in the corner of the net to make it level.
Victory SC made a clumsy mistake at the back, which created space for Felix, who scored the winning goal for Mas Odi in the additional time.
Mas Odi SC and Victory SC now will start the preparation for the top division.
