As Victory SC celebrated their 51st anniversary this year, there are a few players who played for this club who will be forever a household name in the history of sports. Juliet Abdulla Rasheed – Jooley, is in the top bracket of that list.
Jooley will be remembered as the first player to score a goal on the international stage for Maldives. He scored the goal against Comoros in the 1979 Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG).
Moreover, at the local football level, he will be known as the talisman of Victory SC. He was the captain when Victory won the Presidents Cup (The National Football Competition) for three consecutive times back in 1985.
Due to injuries, Jooley had to hang his boot, but his love affair with victory continued. He was vital for Victory SC’s management in the 90s and early 21st century. Jooley gave his valuable time to the club, making the players build a legacy with the club through his experience.
Everybody who knows Victory SC and is part of the club will always remember Jooley’s contribution to the club.
Jooley died in 2013 at the age of 57. His legacy was brought forward as one of the Futsal pitches in the Male’ City area was named after Jooley in 2013. Also, the Football Association Of Maldives (FAM) started an award with Jooley’s name in it, to honor the goal of the season.
