Victory Sports Club defeated Lagoons Sports Club by 4-1, to reach the quarter-finals of the ongoing FAM MPL 2nd Division Football Tournament.
Victory SC currently sits on top of Group C, standing table. The Reds have a perfect record so far in this competition, with three wins from three games. Victory SC’s remaining game is against Bis Buru Sports Club, scheduled for January 30th.
On course to this clash, Lagoons Sports Club were also with a perfect winning record, but Victory SC seems to be a tough battle.
Victory SC broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Hussain Faisal (Faito) took the chance after Lagoons SC, Goalkeeper, Mohamed Imran dropped the ball inside the area.
Before the break, Umair was left unmarked inside the area, he took the chance to head home the second goal for the Reds.
Soon after the restart, Victory SC’s Uzbek Midfielder, Faroukh Khaydarov scored the third goal. His initial effort was not so efficient but got lucky to get a second chance, which found its way inside the near post.
Umair and substitute, Ibrahim Rizhaan missed the chances to score the fourth for Victory SC. These missed chances were punished when Lagoons SC’s Sri Lankan forward Mohamed Shifan took his chance to score a well-taken goal - this is the first goal Victory SC conceded in this year’s competition.
Victory SC did score the fourth with a minute remaining in normal time. Lagoons SC skipper, Ashad Ali (Adey) brought down Victory SC’s winger Hussain Niyaz Mohamed (Bokury) inside the area. The referee gave a penalty for Victory SC, which was converted by Uzbekistan defender Furkatjon Khasanboev.
Victory SC scored 15 goals so far in this year’s competition and conceded just one. Coach Sobah Mohamed (Soba) is leading Victory SC with a promotion-targeted mindset.
