There are a few personalities who are entitled to the name of Victory Sports Club. The legendary coach, Abdul Jaleel (Abujee) is one of the dedicated legends of Victory. Though he is remembered as a successful coach, his legacy will be forever engraved in the hearts of Victorians.
Abujee was in the spotlight when Victory clinched three successive National Tournament titles. It was a history-making achievement for Victory in 1985. He was not only the tactician to develop key strategies towards that success, he was more of a soul of that victory side, which was ready for every battle.
In the 21st century, two coaches stood up for the challenge to make Victory successful. Former player turned coaches, Mauroof Ahmed (Maattey) and Ali Suzain, were students of Abujee. They learned a lot from Abujee about the traditions and legacy of victory. Suzain and Maattey won titles with Victory but they always dedicated that success to Abujee, because they realized how much of a hurdle Abujee took in the early days.
Abujee moulded the idea that Victory needed to be in the top tier of Maldives football. As many of the iconic football players played for Victory in every decade of Maldives football’s existence.
